At the City Council meeting of March 16, 2020, the City Council adopted a resolution proclaiming the existence of a local emergency in response to the COVID-19 virus.

The City of Escalon has been closely monitoring the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation. Based upon the information from our San Joaquin County Public Health Services and out of an abundance of caution, the countermeasures will be taken to assist in the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.

Below are countermeasures that have been put into place. If the measures have not already been implemented, they will be effective March 18, 2020. While these steps may cause discomfort, please understand that they are being done for the safety of our community.

Recreation Programs: All City of Escalon recreation programs are suspended until the San Joaquin County Public Health Services makes changes to their recommendations of guidance. This includes the delay of the youth baseball/softball program. Recreation staff will be monitoring updates and guidance from the San Joaquin County Public Health Service as well as federal and state governments and will update participants of any changes.

Facility Rentals: Any facility rentals are to be canceled until the end of the month and no new rentals until further notice.

City Council and Commission Meetings: All commission and non-emergency City Council meetings are canceled through the end of March, and future meetings will be determined based on recommendations from San Joaquin County Public Health Services. For meetings that will be conducted the Public is encouraged to view meetings via our YouTube channel, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCnj5AyZbMnaFmpNtaAxXRMA, and public comment can be submitted via email: [email protected] or by voicemail 209-691-7410

Police Department Lobby: All non-emergency services, including live scans, are suspended until further notice. Staff will continue to serve the community by telephone, email, and by appointment. Please call 209-691-7300 with any questions or to schedule an appointment for regular business.

Animal Shelter: All non-emergency services are suspended until further notice. Staff will continue to serve the community by telephone, email, and by appointment. Please call 209-838-9908 with any questions or to schedule an appointment for regular business.

City Hall Lobby: Counter service at City Hall is suspended until further notice. Staff will continue to serve the community by telephone, email, and by appointment. Please call 209-691-7400 with any questions or to schedule an appointment.

Community Development Department: Counter service is suspended until further notice. Staff will continue to serve the community by telephone, email, and by appointment. Please call 209-691-7430 with any questions or to schedule an appointment.

Escalon Library: The Escalon branch of the Stockton – San Joaquin County Public Library was closed by the City of Stockton starting March 15 and will likely continue through the end of the month.

Escalon Senior Events: Effective March 13, all activities for the Seniors are suspended until further notice., except for the senior meal program on Tuesday and Thursday, which will be served as take out only.

These measures will be continually monitored, and every fourteen (14) days be evaluated by the Emergency Services Council and reported to the City Council at a public meeting.
